Date(s) - February 13, 2019
5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Franklin's Table Food Hall
Friends – there will be a FREE series of Japanese films presented every Wednesday at Penn during the month of February. The theme of this series is “Anime Apocalypse”. Screenings will be in room Annenberg 111, which is at 3620 Walnut Street, starting at 7pm.
5-6:30pm — Meet First at Franklin’s Table (3401 Walnut Street)
Franklin’s Table is a food court very close to the screenings. It looks like there are at least seven spots to purchase food & drinks, including DK Sushi — Japanese food to get in the mood to see Japanese anime! Which ever spot you choose, we’ll start gathering there at 5pm to eat & socialize. Look for our MeetUp signs. Then at 6:30 we’ll walk over to Annenberg 111 for the film.
Or you can simply meet us at the Annenberg Building room 111 for the presentation. The screenings normally start with an introduction by a Penn professor, who is then available for Q&A afterwards as well. This series is presented with the intention of educational purposes, so as Guests please be respectful as sign our appreciation… and gratitude since the series is FREE.
plot: Kaneda is a bike gang leader whose close friend Tetsuo gets involved in a government secret project known as Akira. On his way to save Tetsuo, Kaneda runs into a group of anti-government activists, greedy politicians, irresponsible scientists and a powerful military leader. The confrontation sparks off Tetsuo’s supernatural power leading to bloody death, a coup attempt and the final battle in Tokyo Olympiad where Akira’s secrets were buried 30 years ago.
