Not only does the author share her darkest moments with you…her “Black” moments…but she allows you to share your own with yourself. This is a great read. If you know anyone who is or was going through a “Black” moment, please feel free to share this book with them. It speaks to your soul.
The Black Experience by Jacklyn Brown uncovers how hidden negative beliefs about oneself and the world become embedded in your unconscious, which in turn develop into self-defeating rituals by which we live. This is a concise exploration of the root causes of negativity and the constant battle everyone must take to expose the difference between what you perceive and the actual truth. This book will teach you how to open your mind so you can reveal the truth and take steps to change. You will have a better insight and the capability to form new habits that will enrich and transform every section of your life.
The Black Experience by Jacklyn Brown was excellently written and I was hooked from the first paragraph. This book is well researched in the dark, hopeless emotions connected to depression. Such as ‘Crawling towards the light until I relearned how to walk to it’, was an excellent description of the hopelessness you feel. I have learned so much about how your thoughts can become reality with no proof to substantiate them, and how this mindset causes low self-esteem and the inability to make relational choices. I now understand that you must not hide behind lies and excuses because of fear of the unknown or failure. I found the analysis of relationships and parenting invaluable. This book left me with a great sense of optimism for the future because now I understand that everyone has the capability to make choices that bring positive results, but we also have been given the tools to achieve the changes we need to make.
This is one of the few books that left me with the strong feeling that it was written for me, left me feeling as though the author was writing from my head, addressing my limiting thought patterns, my fears and darkness, and my flights from reality. First, she leads readers into the heart of her darkness and allows them to feel her vulnerability, uncovering the source of that darkness and the wrong stories we write for ourselves. Then, she offers ground-breaking tools to help readers break away from their prisons, touching intelligently on topics like the law of attraction, parenting, sex, self-image, and a lot more. In The Black Experience: Transform the Story Your Mind Writes, Jacklyn Brown speaks words of wisdom to the reader’s heart, her prose is filled with life experiences and rooted in reality, and her voice is as powerful as it is compassionate. It is a life-changing book.
