The aim of the organization is to strengthen and motivate the Somali youth to ensure they acquire abilities and skills to participate in civic engagement. The primary purpose of this organization is to bring the different sects of the Somali community, to bridge their differences, and to pass to the next generation valuable lessons.

Mission

The mission of Somali Youth United is:

To strengthen and motivate the youth to ensure they acquire abilities and skills to participate in civic engagement.
To assist the youth in developing an effective voice that benefits the daily life of their communities.
To bring the different sects of the Somali community, to bridge their differences, and also to pass on valuable lessons to the next generation.

To reach out to other communities and clarify misconceptions regarding new immigrants.

Vision

The vision of Somali Youth United is to achieve unity in the Somali community across the various sects present in San Diego. This unity would lead our youth getting closer to one another and help them realize their inner potential. This vision will be brought about through a variety of activities that are geared toward building leadership and accountability skills in the youth.

Abdisalam Farah, born and raised in somali, can attest from first hand experiences the beauty and power of being surrounded with somali youth eager to make something of themselves. Abdisalam had the pleasure of going to school in somali before the civil war erupted. In somali, education was not a choice, but a necessity, it was not a luxury but the only way to make something happen for your family.

In the United States, somali children take for granted the wonderful opportunities presented of a free education system. Abdisalam recalls having to walk for miles to school in somali, being the second eldest boy in the family, failure was not an option.

Somali Youth United is non profit organization, that seeks to make invaluable contribution to the somali youth community members lives, through various activities. SYU seeks to unite the somali community beyond tribal envy, and set an examples for our brothers and sisters in the United States and aboard.

Abdisalam Farah does not receive any income or salary, Somali Youth United is non profit organization that provides guidance for the youth of the community, uplifts the spirits of the somali community members, and seek to change their lives for the better; by being the ear and eyes of the san diego community. Through donations, and a lot of volunteer hours from the community, Somali Youth United is nearing its 8th anniversary.
