Description
The Prerogative Court used to be the focus for probate in colonial Maryland. A pass judgement on and quite a lot of clerks staffed the court. All matters of probate went right away to the Prerogative Court, which used to be positioned in Annapolis, Maryland’s colonial capital. In the end, administration of probate used to be delegated to the several county courts; then again, many documents related to probate continued to be filed on the Prerogative Court and not in the corresponding county. It must be noted that the Prerogative Court used to be also the colony’s court for equity cases-resolution of disputes over the settlement and distribution of an estate. (Beginning in 1674, inventories and accounts were recorded in a separate series.)
