As problems with power and social order loom large in Angelstown, Ralph Cintron shows how eruptions at the margins of the community are emblematic of a deeper disorder. Of their language and photographs, the members of a Latino community in a midsized American town create self-respect below conditions of disrepect. Cintron’s leading edge ethnography offers a wonderful portrait of a struggling Mexican-American community and shows how other people (including ethnographers) make sense in their lives through cultural forms.
