Description

For generations, boaters and educate passengers have been mystified and intrigued by the sight of a castlelike structure looming within the Hudson River, close to Fishkill. Bannerman Castle unveils the history of this web page: an island arsenal, built to resemble a Scottish castle. The tale begins in 1900, when Francis Bannerman VI bought the island―officially Pollepel however later referred to as Bannerman’s Island―for storing used military goods bought from the federal government. A local of Scotland, Bannerman designed his arsenal to resemble a Scottish castle.
