Below are biographic sketches, necessarily very brief, of the men now holding executive and administrative positions within the government of the City of Chicago. The five first compose, in popular speech, the Mayor’s cabinet, they being the heads, respectively, of the five great Departments, those of Finance, of Public Works, of Law, of Health, and that of Civil Service, which officially is represented by the President of the Civil Service Com mission. Next are the General Superintendent of Police, the Fire Marshal, the City Electrician, the City Business Agent, the mem bers of the Board of Local Improvements, and the chiefs of two great Bureaus that deserve every the departmental rank. Also here are noticed a variety of officials who conduct smaller divisions within the government, and who receive their appointments direct from the Mayor. After which follows brief biographic men tion of every of the Aldermen.
