Description
All the way through the Civil War, battles inaudible to these a couple of miles from the fighting were occasionally heard clearly 100 miles from the battlefield, and the careers of prominent Civil War generals were suffering from ordinary battlefield acoustics. Ross (physics, Longwood College) examines the acoustics of six Civil War battles and appears on the role acoustics played in figuring out command decisions and within the outcome of the war. Includes b&w historical photos. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
