Description
American realist Edward Hopper (1882 1967) built his paintings around light. I like long shadows and early and past due sunlight. I’m very much all for light, . . . seeking to paint sunlight without getting rid of the shape under it, if I will. Early in his career, Hopper turned to creating etchings through which he registered fine gradations of luminosity. In later paintings he applied this skill to atmospheric studies of land and sea, of dwellings both humble and grand, and of the introspective individuals who inhabit them.
