The earliest known dated Florida currency used to be issued by Gregor MacGregor for his independent Republic of the Floridas, which he established on Amelia Island in 1817. Tying together the history and economic development of the state, this catalog of Florida paper money includes currency from Colonial days during the Great Depression.
