Description
In this seventh volume of The Illustrated Flora of Illinois series, the first to be devoted to the dicotyledonous plants, Robert H. Mohlenbrock includes four orders and thirteen families of plants. The orders covered on this work are the Theales, Ebenales, Primulales, and Cistales. Families described are the Aquifoliaceae, Hypericaceae, Elatinaceae, Ericaceae, Ebenaceae, Sapotaceae, Styracaceae, Primulaceae, Violaceae, Cistaceae, Passifloraceae, Cucurbitaceae, and Loasaceae. In all, 46 genera and 130 species are discussed.
Each species is illustrated, showing the habit in addition to one of the vital distinguishing features in detail. A description, whilst not necessarily intended to be complete, covers the more essential features of every species.
Because of the unique breadth of scope coupled with the easy-to-use yet scientifically exacting organization of the person volumes within the series, The Illustrated Flora of Illinois has found able acceptance among professionals and others serious about Illinois flora.
