Description

The Comstock Lode is a lode of silver ore positioned under the eastern slope of Mount Davidson, a peak within the Virginia Range in Nevada (then western Utah Territory). It was once the primary major discovery of silver ore in the USA. After the discovery was once made public in 1859, it sparked a silver rush of prospectors to the area, scrambling to stake their claims. The discovery caused considerable excitement in California and right through the USA, the greatest because the California Gold Rush in 1849. Mining camps soon thrived within the vicinity, which turned into bustling centers of fabulous wealth, including Virginia City and Gold Hill. The Comstock Lode is notable not just for the immense fortunes it generated and the large role those fortunes had within the growth of Nevada and San Francisco, but additionally for the advances in mining technology that it spurred. This book published in 1877 has been reformatted for republication and reprinting and might contain an occasional defect from the original publication or from the reformatting.
