Presbyterians on the Northern Plains: A history

Description

From the Introduction: “The history of Presbyterianism in North Dakota has a few distinct epochs. This narrative begins with a temporary history of the church before 1870. Chapter I deals with the European origins of the church, traces the movement of the Presbyterians to the New World before the American Revolution, after which covers the house missionary movement which in the end brought Presbyterianism to Minnesota and to Dakota Territory Chapter II covers the pre-synod period in North Dakota (1870 to 1885), and Chapter III presents the maturing of the Synod of North Dakota between 1885 and 1920. Chapter IV deals with the last fifty years of the Synod of North Dakota, and Chapters V and VI cover the era for the reason that synod reverted to presbytery status below the brand new regional Synod of Lakes and Prairies, which used to be created in 1972.” The appendix includes “Years of Crisis (1994-1998) by Arabella Meadows-Rogers; “The Minnesota Connection” by Charles House and Philip Weiler; “James Walker and Jamestown College” by Charles House; a listing of Officers of the Synod of North Dakota, 1885-1972; Officers of the Presbytery of the Northern Plains, 1977-2001; Statistics of the Synod of North Dakota, 1885-1972; Statistics of the Presbytery of ND (1973-1976) and of the Northern Plains (1977-2000). The book includes maps and tables.
