Description

FOR MOST OF August 1883 a military expedition headed by President Chester A. Arthur and guided by Lt. Gen. Philip Sheridan crossed 500 miles of flippantly settled Wyoming Territory. The goal was once to succeed in Yellowstone National Park and tour it before returning to civilization. Arthur was once the primary president to discuss with the park, and the one president to make an extensive overland march, most commonly on horseback. A number one objective of the expedition was once to lift the awareness of U.S. citizens to the attractions along the route, and the desire for preservation of the park, which was once threatened by vandalism, commercial development, and official neglect.
