Description

This handsome volume is dedicated to the paintings of the Fauves, the gang of French post-impressionist artists who, just like the impressionists themselves, owed their name to a dismissive epithet by a hostile critic. Thankfully, the Fauvistes had their admirers, and none more so than the Russian collectors Shchukin and the Morozov brothers, whose paintings at the moment are divided between the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Art in Moscow. This book comprises full-colour reproductions of essentially the most representative works of the leading proponents in their flamboyant taste.
