Description

The Hausa of Nigeria is the culmination of thirty-nine years of anthropological thought and research and plenty of field trips to Nigeria. It’s an ethnographic reflection of intense field work in Yauri and the surrounding areas that border it, in addition to many trips to archives, libraries, and interview sites. Additionally it is the results of discussions with colleagues, especially Salamone’s mentor, Charles Frantz, who directed Salamone to Nigeria and who has aided the creator’s many years of study of the Hausa through the years. Frantz’s work on ethnicity, in addition to ethics in anthropology, has served to provide an ordinary for Salamone’s own endeavors. This work looks on the notion of identity formation and its relationship to history, religion, warfare, gender, economics and quite a lot of other dimensions of Hausa life, in addition to minority group relationships and creolization.
