This second edition of Catherine J. Allen’s distinctive ethnography of the Quechua-speaking other people of the Andes brings their story into the prevailing. She has added an extensive afterword in response to her visits to Sonqo in 1995 and 2000 and has up to date and revised parts of the unique text. The book makes a speciality of the very real problem of cultural continuity in a changing world, and Allen finds that the hold life has in 2002 isn’t the similar because it used to be in 1985.
