Description
The United Nations played a central role within the Salvadorian peace process, combining peacemaking, peace-keeping and particularly post-conflict peace-building. The United Nations and El Salvador, 1990-1995, is a chronicle of one of the crucial comprehensive operations within the history of the United Nations – the United Nations Observer Mission in El Salvador (ONUSAL). Now, for the primary time, the texts of more than 100 key documents in relation to this mission have been brought in combination in one volume. Complementing the documents are an in depth chronology and an introduction by Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali, which give an entire account of the Organization’s multi-faceted work as mediator, human rights monitor, peace-keeper and electoral observer.
