Because it is a workbook for preschoolers who are also learning to read, directions in conjunction with scripted questions are given to lend a hand parents and teachers as they introduce the letters and the letter sounds. The italicized words given in the lesson section are the answers to the scripted questions given in the Questions to Ask section.

Also, because preschoolers in most cases enjoy coloring, black and white illustrations that beef up the phonetic sounds are included, giving young preschoolers the option to color the fun illustrations. Along with being fun and enjoyable, the act of coloring helps preschoolers to toughen the muscles in their fingers and hands and enables children to master handwriting faster.

Note: By design this workbook for preschoolers primarily introduces the short vowel sounds—the vowel sounds to which most children are first introduced as they discover ways to read CVC words.
