World History Biographies: Galileo: The Genius Who Charted the Universe (National Geographic World History Biographies)

Amazon.com Price:  $4.99 (as of 25/04/2019 14:21 PST- Details)

Description

Galileo made the primary effective use of the refracting telescope to find necessary new facts about astronomy. His observations led him to enhance Copernicus’s claim that Earth and the other planets circled the sun. This conflicted with the teachings of the Catholic Church, and brought Galileo before the judges of the Inquisition. He spent his final years under house arrest.

Galileo’s genius lay in the best way he approached scientific problems. He reduced problems to simple terms at the basis of experience and common-sense logic. Then he analyzed and resolved the issues consistent with simple mathematical descriptions, thus opening the best way for the development of up to date mathematical physics.
