After being ousted from Germany in 1833 for his radical ideas, Gustav Koerner moved to Illinois to work as a lawyer. Koerner later turned into an Illinois Supreme Court pass judgement on and lieutenant governor. He and a tender Abraham Lincoln had much in commonplace, they usually started a lifelong correspondence. Their friendship was once instrumental in shaping Lincoln’s early opinions and political goals.
