Das Interesse an der bewusztau Frage liegt zunächst in der Sache selbst. Es ist keine Kleinigkeit, wenn ein historisches Werk, welches man weit über ein Jahrtausend als ein echtes Produkt des klassischen Alterthums, eines so bekannten Namens wie Xenophon über kommen und bona fide betrachtet hat, welches schon deshalb, weil es für die zusammen hängende Geschichte von 48 bedeutungsvollen Jahren (411 – 362 v. Chr.) als Hauptquelle gilt, auf unseren Gymnasien seit undenklicher Zeit gelesen und interpretirt wird und die Kräfte zahlreicher, zum Theil bedeutender Gelehrten in vielen Abhandlungen in Bewegung gesetzt hat, wenn ein solches Werk, sage ich, plötzlich für unecht wenigstens in der vorliegenden Gestalt erklärt wird.
