Claiming the lives of 7 adults and seventeen youngsters, the Belvidere tornado struck probably the most vulnerable on the worst imaginable time: just as school let out. More than five hundred folks suffered injuries. New interviews and engaging archival history underscore the horrific drama, in addition to the split-second decisions of sufferers and survivors that saved their families and neighbors. For the reason that tragedy, three more devastating tornadoes have further defined Boone County’s resilience: Poplar Grove in 2008, Caledonia in 2010 and Fairdale in 2015.
