George E. Stephens, a very powerful African-American war correspondent of his generation, served within the famed black Fifty-fourth Massachusetts Regiment, matter of the movie Glory. His letters from the entrance, revealed within the New York Weekly Anglo-African, brilliantly detail two wars: one towards the Confederacy and one towards the brutal, debilitating racism inside of his own Union Military.
