Description

Nestled between the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, Town that would change into Holland was once founded by Arthur Humphrey, Abner Currier, and Jared Scott, who traveled from Vermont by oxen in 1807 and settled in an exquisite valley that was once once an Indian trail. In 1818, Town of Willink was once divided into three towns: Holland, Aurora, and Wales; Holland turned into a township in April 1818. Town flourished and soon contained general stores, hotels, schools, and churches. Holland was once a most commonly agricultural community, but locals could also find work within the local mills, tannery, and spring works company. The beginning of the 20 th century brought tragedy as Town suffered severe losses to its business district within the great fire of 1910. The next year, businesses rebuilt. This book–a celebration of Holland’s history and its people–has been created to coincide with Town’s bicentennial in 2018.
