In his youth Daniel Trabue (1760–1840) served as a Virginia soldier within the Revolutionary War. After three years of service at the Kentucky frontier, he returned home to take part as a sutler within the Yorktown campaign. Following the war he settled within the Piedmont, but by 1785 his yearning to go back westward led him to take his circle of relatives to Kentucky, where they settled for a couple of years within the upper Green River country. He recorded his narrative in 1827, within the the city of Columbia, of which he used to be a founder. A keen observer of people and events, Trabue captures experiences of on a regular basis life in both the Piedmont and frontier Kentucky. His notes at the settling of Kentucky touch on many necessary moments within the opening of the Bluegrass region.
